National News: Abdel Baset al-Megrahi receives a hero’s welcome

You probably remember this man for the picture above. He is the only convicted terrorist who was responsible for the Pan Am Flight 103 disaster.

Pan Am Flight 103 of Pan American World Airways' third daily scheduled transatlantic flight from London's Heathrow Airport to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. On Wednesday 21 December 1988, the aircraft flying this route—a Boeing 747-121 named Clipper Maid of the Seas—was destroyed by a bomb, killing all 243 passengers and 16 crew members.[1] Eleven people in Lockerbie, southern Scotland, were killed as large sections of the plane fell in and around the town, bringing total fatalities to 270. As a result, the event has been named by the media as the Lockerbie Bombing.
In 2001, Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi, a Libyan, was convicted of involvement in the bombing and sentenced to life imprisonment.
On 20 August 2009, the Scottish Government released him on compassionate grounds to return to Libya as he was suffering from terminal prostate cancer and had a life expectancy of less than 3 months.

Images of Libyan leader Colonel Muammar al-Qaddafi embracing the Lockerbie bomber when he arrived in Tripoli are sparking fresh international outrage after the convicted terrorist enjoyed a hero's welcome in his native country.

Relatives of the victims of the 270 people killed when Abdel Baset al-Megrahi blew up a jetliner over a Scottish town are furious about the warm greetings extended to him.

With television cameras rolling, Qaddafi hugged Megrahi, and Megrahi kissed him. Libya's leader then praised his "friend" British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and the British government on Thursday for what he called their "courage" in allowing Megrahi's release.

"To my friends in Scotland ... I praise their courage for having proved their independence in decision-making despite the unacceptable and unreasonable measures that they faced," Qaddafi told crowds waving Scottish flags and throwing flower petals. "Nevertheless, they took this courageously right and humanitarian decision."

The latest developments come as Britain rejected any suggestion that it had struck a deal with Libya to free the Lockerbie bomber in exchange for trade agreements specifically benefiting Britain.

And we are so totally suppose to believe that the Britain’s did not do this… With 3 months to live, what did they have to lose??

Even so, Qaddafi's son, Seif al-Islam Qaddafi, said Megrahi's release was a constant point of discussion during trade talks.

In comments aired on the Libyan television station he owns, he said those discussions stretched back to former Prime Minister Tony Blair's government.

"In fact, in all the trade, oil and gas deals which I have supervised, you were there on the table," Qaddafi's son told Megrahi. "When British interests came to Libya, I used to put you on the table."

British officials insist they did not tell Scottish justice officials what to do — and in any case, they could not, because the decision was not theirs' to make.

"The idea that the British government and the Libyan government would sit down and somehow barter over the freedom or the life of this Libyan prisoner and make it form part of some business deal .... it's not only wrong, it's completely implausible and actually quite offensive," Britain's Business Secretary Peter Mandelson told reporters in London.

Britain has walked a fine line in the issue, as the government in London must distance itself from local affairs in Scotland. While outraged at the jubilant reception Megrahi received in Libya, British leaders have refrained from criticizing the decision to free him, which was made in Edinburgh under Scotland's separate judicial system.

Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill decided to release Megrahi on compassionate grounds because the Libyan has prostate cancer and was given only months to live by top British doctors. Compassionate leave for dying inmates is a regular feature of Scottish justice.

In Washington on Saturday, FBI Director Robert Mueller blasted MacAskill for allowing the Lockerbie bomber to return home, saying the decision made "a mockery of justice" and gave comfort to terrorists around the world.

President Barack Obama earlier called the decision "highly objectionable."

"A high-profile return would cause further unnecessary pain for the families of the Lockerbie victims. It would also undermine Libya's growing international reputation," Brown wrote in a letter to the Libyan leader.

While Britain does have oil interests in Libya — notably a $900 million exploration deal between BP PLC and Libya's National Oil Co. — they are small compared to investments by Italy's Eni SpA.

TV News - Doll House – Season 2

Once of my favorite TV show is returning for a second season. I’m surprised, lately the networks seem to run one season of a new show and just after they get you in hook line and sinker, and they cancel the show.
Adding to the cast, Keith Carradine will not only be returning to Dexter this season as Deb’s Fed Ex, he will also appear on two episodes of Doll House.
Take a look at the show’s new artwork. Be sure to tune in, you won’t be sorry.

Movie News : X-Files 3 – Could it be?

Gillian Anderson spilled the beans at her appearance at the Sarajevo Film Festival by saying that a third ‘X-Files’ movie is in the early stages and will probably be filmed in 2012.
There has been no confirmation or denial to the possibility of a third installment despite the fact that ‘The X-File: I want to Believe’ failed to deliver in 2008.
In late 2008, producer Frank Spotnitz stated that a third installment would only occur if the DVD sales of ‘The X-Files: I Want to Believe’ do well. The movie released in July of 2008 raked in nearly $21 million in the domestic market and $68.4 million worldwide.
The film cost $30 million to make.

Movie News: Avatar Day

So Friday was the big day of the worldwide free sneak peek at the new James Cameron 3-D epic Avatar Day. The free sneak peek was shown on 102 screens in the US and hundreds more overseas. Fox is trying to get the buzz flowing for the flick, which cost over $200 million.
The footage consisted of six scenes plus a rapidly edited action montage consisting mostly of images, which are already in the trailer. I had a great difficulty making any sense of it all, and was not sure what my feelings are about the film.
Avatar is an audacious motion picture, but I don’t think moviegoers will be completely impressed with the flick
I am anxiously awaiting the release December 18th to see how they fair out. Fox will need to bring in a lot of dough on the opening weekend if they are going to pay for this flick.

Movie News: 'Inglourious Basterds'

Movie Gods Smiled on Quentin Tarantino's

The execs at Weinstein Co must be breathing a huge sigh of relief after Friday’s box office numbers came in and suggesting the gamble on Tarantion’s “Inglourious Basterds” paid off.

The WWII Drama took in an estimated $14.3 million, putting it on track to win the weekend box office take which could amount to about $36 million in all.

Shorts, a Robert Rodriguez’s kids film, didn’t fare too well only earning Warner Bros. an estimated $2 million, and giving it the sixth slot.

District 9 suffered severely at the hands of “inglourious Basterds” with $5.5 million in sales which was down 61% from opening day.

The Time Traveler’s Wife came in fourth at the box office with $3.3 million.

And in firth place comes Julie & Julia with $2.6 million.

It will be interesting to see how the entire weekend ends up. Look for an update.

Florida Mother Charged – Left Baby in Car

Douche Bag News
This story breaks my heart, how could a mother be so STUPID?
A mother in North Port, Florida, Kasandra Beekman, 24, decided to go to the neighborhood one stop shop, Wal-Mart. She exited the vehicle with windows up, and left her 8-month old son in the car with the car not running.
A witness called 911. The store manager and a customer gave the baby first aid until the paramedics arrived. The baby was treated at a hospital and then released in the care of Department of Children and Families.
Hmm, again, is this a good decision. The Dept of Children and Families in Florida has a bad track record for keeping the kids safe.
The mother is being charge with felony child neglect according to the North Port Police and being held on $25,000 bail.
I think she needs to be Slapped and locked in a car herself. What happened to an eye for an eye? My thoughts and prayers are with that 8-month-old child.

The New York Daily News reported that Nelly has been spending time in Las Vegas & Miami with model/actress Melyssa Ford. Wonder if this has anything to do with the romantic differences?

Jackson kids may be sent to private school

Will this be good for the Jackson children? Will this begin the trend of a normal life for the “King of Pops” children? One would hope, but as long as they are alive, I fear that they will never be given the chance at a normal life. Hounded by Paparazzi and rumors of their father and his past.
Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and Prince Michael II, 7 may soon be enrolled into a Los Angeles private school stated an unidentified source close to the Jackson family. They stated that Katherine is considering stopping the home schooling and sending the children to Buckley School.
Many of the extended Jackson family have attended the school in the past to include three childen of Tito Jackson.
The school is close to the Jackson’s Encino home in Los Angeles and the neighborhood is heavily protected.
I wish the kids the best of luck whether home schooled or inrolled in Buckley School.
About Buckley School
The Buckley School was founded in 1933 as an independent co-educational institution by Dr. Isabelle Buckley. Drawing on her experiences abroad where schools emphasized a well-rounded program, Dr. Buckley developed her own 4-Fold Plan of Education, focusing on academic training, physical development, moral education and creative expression. During the early years, campuses were located in L.A., Tarzana, Encino, and on Woodman Avenue and Riverside Avenue in Sherman Oaks. In 1964, Dr. Buckley purchased land that had been owned by the Glenaire Country Club and by 1973 was able to accommodate all divisions of the school on the new Stansbury Avenue campus in Sherman Oaks. Today, The Buckley School is a college preparatory day school, with students in kindergarten through grade twelve.

Champion aerobatic pilot Vicki Cruse dies in air crash

Vicki Cruse, 40, from Santa Paula, California, was pronounced dead at the scene where she was completing a practice flight.

Our hearts and prayers should be with the Cruse family for the tradgedy they have suffered today.

Miss Cruse, president of the International Aerobatic Club, had been due to compete in the World Aerobatic Championships being staged at the home of British motor racing.

The World Aerobatic Championships, being staged over 13 days, is Silverstone's first-ever air show.

Scheduled to run from August 17 to August 29, it has attracted around 60 pilots from 19 countries, all competing for the title of world champion. The championships have been staged every two years since their inception in 1960.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police were notified at 12.12pm that a single aircraft taking part in an acrobatic show at Silverstone had come down on the circuit.

"Investigators from the Civil Aviation Authority are on their way to the scene to begin their investigation."

Cruse died instantly after her single-seat Zivko Edge 540 nosedived into the ground as motoring enthusiasts gathered for an event being staged by the 750 Motor Club.

One eyewitness said: "She flew straight up in the air and then straight back down again. But she dropped straight into the ground.

"There was no fire and no smoke, just a terrible wreckage. An ambulance arrived very quickly but nobody took the pilot away.

The Wisconsin-based International Aerobatic Club confirmed they were compiling a tribute to Miss Cruse.

Saturday was designated as a training day and there were no spectators at the air show, although eyewitnesses who were attending driving experience days.

Film - This is It - Michael Jackson's final days!

A film on the final weeks of Michael Jackson's life -- as he prepared for his comeback tour -- will open worldwide on October 28 and be in cinemas for two weeks, according to Sony Pictures announcement.

The movie, titled "This Is It," was described as an "intimate portrait of Michael Jackson as you've never seen him before," Sony said in a press release.

In an unusual move, tickets for the movie will go on sale on September 27, more than a month before the movie is released. The release date was also moved up by two days.

"This Is It" will show "a rare, behind-the-scenes look" at Jackson as he rehearsed between April and June for a series of concerts that were to start July 13 in London's O2 Arena.

It is being "produced with the full support of The Estate of Michael Jackson," Sony said.

The movie title, taken from one of Jackson's hit songs, also shares the title of what was to be his 2009 tour.

The movie's director is Kenny Ortega, best known for directing Disney's successful "High School Musical 3: Senior Year."

"This film is Michael's gift to his fans," Ortega said. "It's a very private, exclusive look into a creative genius's world."

"With this film, we get a rare portrait of Michael as he prepares for his final curtain call and what I believe was going to be his master work," Ortega said.

Hollywood media reported Sony could have paid up to 60 million dollars for the rights to the recordings of Jackson's final rehearsals.

Jackson died in Los Angeles on June 25 at age 50 from an apparent cardiac arrest.

Authorities are investigating whether prescription drugs played a role in his death, and have focused on the conduct of his personal physician Conrad Murray, reportedly the target of a police manslaughter investigation.

Lindsay Lohan - Calls 911

Lindsay Lohan went ballistic last night after she "lost" her precious cell phone in a NY deli -- a situation so dire, she dragged the NYPD to the scene.
It all went down at Mott Corner Deli, where after buying some stuff and leaving, LiLo realized she had left her phone inside the shop. But when Linz went back, the deli worker insisted on checking the security tape to make sure it was hers before handing it back -- this sent LiLo into a rage.
Multiple people at the scene -- including the deli worker -- tell us Linz was so angry the deli man wouldn't just hand over the phone, that she got someone to call the NYPD for backup.
Like the NYPD have nothing better to do then to rescue poor Lindsay's cell phone... Hello, put it in your pocket instead of carrying it around like a trophey... cell phones are a dime a dozen, everyone had one now, you are not SPECIAL.
Cops said the call came in at 7:30 PM -- but by the time the officer showed up to the life-or-death situation, it had already been "diffused."
BTW -- the deli worker said he had no idea who  she  was make it even a funnier situation.

LeAnn Rimes - From Cheating to Hit and Run??

Country singer LeAnn Rimes was questioned Thursday by LAPD officers after she was accused of a misdemeanor hit-and-run in Brentwood, officials said today.
Officers with the West Traffic Division went to Rimes’ home to question her following the 7:45 p.m. accident in the 11000 block of Montana Avenue.
If police decide there is enough evidence to pursue the case, they would forward it to the Los Angeles city attorney’s office for further review.
No details about the accident were available, and Rimes could not be immediately reached for comment.
The Mississippi-born singer, 26, is a two-time Grammy winner who has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide. Rimes was an apple-cheeked 13-year-old prodigy who rode her album "Blue" to the top of the charts and, in turn, became the youngest Grammy winner ever, before branching out into pop music.
"I was always America's sweetheart, but you grow up, you get married, you have sex, my God!" she said last year in an interview. "I work out a lot, I take care of myself and I like showing it off in a way that's fun and doesn't show too much and that shows that that's part of being a woman."]

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

This past summer Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince hit theaters and made quite a bit of money. It’s no surprise that the last book in the series from which the films are based has been split in two.

Since the announcement that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be broken up, fans everywhere have been trying to figure out at what point the split will happen. More on Potter and a few spoilers below.

According to MTV, we may have gotten our confirmation as to where the first film will end and the second begins. At a recent Q&A event with Joshua Herdman who plays Goyle in the films, he spilled the beans on the final movie’s questionable set up.

“Part one of “Deathly Hallows” will close right after Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) are captured by the Snatchers. Part two will open as the trio and their captors arrive at Malfoy Manor. So that’s that.”

That’s not all folks, the actor also gave some major plot spoilers, which includes an imminent death!

He went on to confirm that his character will be the Slytherin henchman who dies, not Crabbe (played by Jamie Waylett), as it is written in the book. MuggleNet states that the change came after Waylett was arrested and convicted of cannabis possession, and that he is not expected to have a part in “Deathly Hallows.”

See kids, crime doesn’t pay. Even though this is some juicy info, you have to be objective about it.The director and producers have made it clear that things could very well change again. So, keep that in mind.

Does the suggested split happen at the right place? Do you agree with the change in the story line?

Prince William - Two men were sentenced in a London Court

Two men were sentenced in a London court to 100 days of community service for stealing a memory card containing photos of Prince William and his girlfriend.

I am still a bit curious thought why people of fame and fortune leave camera's available for folks to take the memory card??

Charlie Ewins and Leon Sesay had pleaded guilty to the theft at an earlier court hearing. They were reported to police after they attempted to sell the digital images of the prince and Kate Middleton, which were taken during a Middleton family vacation on the Caribbean island of Mustique last year.

The men said they found the memory card in the street after a car belonging to Middleton's sister was broken into, and her bag, along with her phone and camera, had been snatched.

''Counsel described you as 'Dumb and Dumber,'" The Daily Telegraph quoted recorder Martyn Barklem as telling Ewins and Sesay, referring to the iconic Jim Carrey-Jeff Daniels comedy.

No suprise there, you'd have to be Dumb & Dumber to think you could sell these photo's and not get caught.... can you say Douchebags?

"That is not that inaccurate a characterization of you both. You are essentially fools for whom things have spiraled out of control. ... I suppose years ago, you might have been sent to the Tower of London, but, of course, cameras and memory cards did not exist in those days.''
A light aircraft crashed near Harrison High School in Ohio Friday night, killing two people on board.

The Harrison Police Chief has confirmed that both occupants of the single engine bi-plane died. The pilot has been identified as Raymond Robben, 47, of Guilford, Indiana. The passenger in the plane has been identified as Belinda Roy, 52, of Lawrenceburg.

It happened around 8 p.m. Friday night in the 9800 block of West Road in Harrison, Ohio.

A witness says the small plane took off from a local airport there, but began "wobbling" and appeared to try to turn around – but took a nose-dive instead into a gravel pit across the street behind the high school gymnasium.

"Just at the off end of the runway, it lost power or it lost lift," said Sgt. Clint Arnold, of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

"The airplane made a sharp, left turn and went down diretcly into an embankment."Witnesses say there was no fire or explosion, just a loud noise as the plane crashed.

This happened while a crowd watched a football scrimmage between Harrison and McNicholas high schools just a few hundred yards away. No one at the scrimmage was hurt.

A McNicholas High School student captured still images of the plane's tragic descent.Harrison police and fire departments and Hamilton County sheriff's deputies are still on the scene, along with the Hamilton County coroner. Cincinnati police officers are also involved in the accident investigation.

Who can really feel sorry for Brody Jenner, a rich Malibu hottie who stars on The Hills...but today, we will have to cut him some slack.

See, it just so happens yesterday was Brody's 26th birthday.

"Spending my bday in the hospital... This sucks," he twittered.

It's not all bad news for the Brody. His Playmate ladyfriend Jayde Nicole is there to give him TLC.

One Tree Hill's Skills Cops Plea in Fake ID Scam

Antwon Tanner is going to have plenty of time to practice his basketball skills—in the big house.
Antwon Tanner who plays Antwon "Skills" Taylor on the hit CW series One Tree Hill has pleaded guilty in Brooklyn federal court Friday to illegally hawking Social Security numbers for $10,000. I'm just a bit curious, do they not pay well at the CW for HIT TV SHOW's such as One Tree Hill?????

Now what will Jamie, played by Jackson Brundage, do without his Uncle Skills??
The New York's Newsday, reported that the 35-year-old admitted before U.S. District Judge Carol Amon to being the middleman in a scam that saw him sell 16 made-up Social Security numbers and three phony cards that were supplied to him by an unidentified contact to an undercover agent with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.

Tanner, who was busted in a sting operation and charged in April, also acknowledged knowingly breaking the law since the numbers were used to fraudulently purchase goods over a 2 1/2-year period.

The actor could have faced a maximum 10-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine,(Wait, hold the presses, he is a celebrity, so will he or will he not) but the guilty plea means he's likely to get somewhere between six and 12 months in jail.
One thing Tanner had in his favor was that prosecutors said there was no evidence he actually used the digits to swindle anyone.

The plea agreement only applies to charges filed in Brooklyn, as Tanner is facing a similar probe in California.

Sentencing is set for Nov. 20 so stay tunned, I'll be sure to let you know what goes down.

Antonio Sabato Jr... Reality TV?

Rachel McAdams as a contestant on My Antonio, the new VH1 reality show in which women compete to go out with former Calvin Klein underwear model Anotnio Sabato Jr.?

WAIT, STOP, how do you sign up for this?

Like that would ever happen.

Even so, it sure would be a hoot if it did.

"I really like Rachel McAdams," Sabato said after taping a guest spot on Style's The Dish. "I met her in New York and I think she's really beautiful."

According to Page Six, the two were introduced to each other recently at the Today show. The gossip column claims McAdams blushed when she told him that he was her teenage crush.

Meanwhile, Sabato says he has another reality show he'd love to land—Dancing With the Stars. "I'd really like to do it," he said, "I would work my ass off for that show."
What is is with everyone wanting a place on Dancing with the Stars? Do they pay good money?
Hmmm, Maybe I need to sign up for Dancing with the Stars.. who can help me with that????

Another former Idol goes to bat for Paula.

Yet another former Idol contestant jumps to Paula Abdul's defense. Wannabe Michael Johns says it's time for the reality show's producers to pay up. Recently Constantine got into a physical altercation defending Paula.

Why doesn’t AI just give in and give her some bucks. Although we never really understood what Paula was saying, nor did the contestants, we all did get a good laugh. How much is a good laugh and people actually watching the show worth to AI? Hmmm, guess they better figure that part out, and QUICKLY…

He doesn't understand why they didn't give the ousted judge what she wanted to stay on.
"She's not asking for what [Ryan] Seacrest is getting paid," Johns told us last night at In Style editor Ariel Foxman's Summer Soiree party at the London hotel in West Hollywood. "She's asking for $20 million over three years, so I think she totally deserves that money. She's a huge reason people tune in to the show…I think Fox should pull their finger out and pay her what she deserves."

Johns said Abdul confided in him during the negotiations.

"We talk all the time," the Aussie singer said. "She was a bit upset. She just doesn't understand why Fox made the decision they made—especially when a lot of people got upgrades in money. But she said, 'Look I'm not going to budge on this. I really think that's my worth.' "

Paula or no Paula, Johns does hope the upcoming season includes a second guest-judging stint by Inglourious Basterds director Quentin Tarantino.

"He was hilarious," he said. "I wish he could come back."As for someone new, Johns has a thing for a certain late-night talk-show host. "I think Chelsea Handler would be pretty funny," he said, adding, "Chelsea would be my first pick."

More drama in the Jackson Family

DEA Agent Talks… Pharmacy Raid

Welcome to Friday, this simply means someone connected to the Michael Jackson death investigation are sure to be served with a search warrant or an accusation.

On Friday the unlucky recipient, Beverly Hills' Mickey Fine Pharmacy, where Drug Enforcement Administration agents turned up this afternoon in their quest to point a definitive finger at any doctor or dispensary who had a hand in Jackson's death.

The pharmacy, which not so coincidentally shares real estate with the King of Pop's embattled, possibly malpractice-facing dermatologist Dr. Arnold Klein, has been extensively used by Jackson and his doctors and even filed suit against the star back in 2007 over an unpaid tab of nearly $100,000. So, I don’t know, if someone owed me a $100,000, I’d probably restrain on giving them additional prescriptions, but what do I know??

DEA spokesman Jose Martinez said officials were seeking evidence of "improper dispensing of controlled substances" from Mickey Fine, which has long serviced the star.
Agents searched for about five hours and left carrying at least one box full of records.
As it happens, Jackson business was being taken care of on two fronts today. While the search went down this afternoon, yet another hearing took place across town, where a judge signed off on a planned three-city tour of Jackson memorabilia.

AEG struck an exclusive $6 million deal with Jackson's estate administrators to put on the tour, but attorneys for Jackson's mother, Katherine, had argued that AEG wasn't maximizing the profitability of such a tour if other promoters had been allowed to bid on its rights. Are you kidding me, they are touring MJ’s items and the family is worried that they may not get enough money? WTF?

The show will kick off at London's O2 Arena toward the end of October, when the concert film, This Is It, is to open in theaters for a two-week limited engagement.

August 21, 2009 - Today's events:

Countries fight over pageant costume

They are seriously fighting over this costume.. I certainly hope Perez Hilton or Paris Hilton don't catch wind of this, they will be looking to do a make over...As if either country has no issues with Poverty, Equal Rights, Homelessness, or health care, they have to choose a battle over a DEVIL Costume... who's running these countries? Pee Wee Herman?LIMA,

South American neighbors Bolivia and Peru are engaged in a battle over a devil dance costume for Sunday's Miss Universe beauty pageant, officials confirm.
Both nations say the costume for the Andean ritual known as the Devil's Dance or La Diablada belongs to their country and only their contestant has the right to wear it in the pageant, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

Culture Minister Pablo Groux of Bolivia says La Diablada originated in Bolivia and allowing Miss Peru to wear the costume at the pageant threatens his country's national brand.

"Culture doesn't have borders," says Jose Antonio Garcia Belaunde, Peru's foreign minister.

Anthropologist David Guss of Boston's Tufts University says the Bolivian city of Oruro "might have the most compelling claim" as the birthplace of La Diablada.
But Guss adds that there was lots of cultural cross-pollination as the dance ritual evolved, and it moved into parts of both Chile and Peru.
