DJ AM was admired and loved by many. Recently he suffered a tramatic breakup with his girlfriend, Hayley Wood, which added to the personal pain and struggle he was currently undergoing after he survived a tragic plane crash. The plane crash left DJ AM with suvivor guilt.
According to reports, Wood ended the relationship within the last week and that since then, "he was keeping to himself, and he was blowing people off."
DJ AM was already having a very hard time dealing with post-traumatic stress from the plane crash he barely survived in September of last year. Four others died in that crash.
In an interview with People, Goldstein said that he was asleep in the plane when "the next thing I remember is us crashing into something ... I woke up to Travis screaming and the plane engulfed in flames. I remember thinking it was like 'Miami Vice,' where a car is on fire and you run before the gas tank explodes - we gotta get out of here!"
Goldstein was badly burned in the crash. "My eyebrows and layers of skin were burned off my face ... My forehead was gouged and my arm had skin hanging off. I was in shock and didn't feel anything," he said.
DJ AM, real name Adam Goldstein, was found dead in his apartment on Friday in New York City. He was 36. According to reports, drug paraphernalia including a glass crack pipe was found at the scene and Goldstein hadn't been seen or heard from in several days.
Goldstein had struggled with drug abuse in the past, but had been sober for years.
Our thoughs and prayers are with Goldsteins friends and family. Today is a sad day for all.
