"A green Ford Explorer made an illegal U-turn in front of her silver Mercedes," Lieut. Tony Lee tells PEOPLE. "Ms. Zellweger was not injured, the damage to her car was very minor. She was very polite and sincere."
Lee added that the two drivers exchanged information and "the incident will be handled between their insurance companies."
"Ms. Zellweger requested her car be towed from the scene, and also requested that officers call her a cab," Lee added. TMZ.com was first to report the accident.
